Gaga about...

Went to catch Singapore Gaga @ The Arts House, finally.............

I like the idea behind the short film.. can't say much about the camera angles though. *Searches around for an Aspirin* mEHh. It's actually not a really happy film.. i think... I felt this constant tug-at-the-heart.

A tinge of sadness,
Some raving madness;
Off-handed display of Egoistics,
A rising statistic.
Mixed faith and work,
She sang to be heard...

And she listened.

She forces us to listen.

Who can really hear?

More than what your ear holds dear?



I was crying at the part when she interviewed the men (and woman), whose voices seemed to be slowly tuned out by our dear govt, quite literally.


"Speak more English/Chinese. Speak Good English/Chinese. Seek to be understood."

I tried to write a local script with pure, good English dialogue recently. The main character, a 70 plus yr old lady, non-educated, came across as fairly hideous and atrocious with a proper "tongue". I tried with relatively passable English, the result? Simply horrendous. Then i put in Mandarin, Ok... but not quite there. It lacked a sense of closeness.

Dialects -- missing ingredients, they're pure and beautiful languages, spoken and sung by our ancestors and their own ancestors...

Where will this river of heritage flow, now that it's reached the dam? Please, release it... and let it back into the sea. I used to despise it... I speak perfect Mandarin and rather good English. I think I've known all there is to know. But I've misplaced my roots and like any other animals with short memory span, I nearly lost them; forgot about them.. Till my grandma, my family, even the disintegrating culture made one last ditch at me... the little lost Meh Meh.

I love my dialect, Teochew... and now, i'm proud to be able to understand it more than some of my frenz. But selfish wishes, one cannot have too many. I have just one for this, and tht is to be even more apt at the language. And selfishly, i want to have more wishes coming true. That is to have both my frenz and even strangers to start treasuring their vanishing heritage.

Hahaz... been rather naggy today.. oHh well.. time to take a break. Nitey all~
