Riget & The Shining...

More horror on DVDs..?? Bring it ON!!!

MUAhahahaha... Watched these 2 films recently; now it's time for some comments.

Riget aka "The Kingdom"
A film directed by Morten Arnfred and Lars Von Trier, set in Denmark, filmed in actual location, a hospital named The Kingdom.

If you think a horror film of 2hrs is trying... think 4 1/2hrs film runtime of horror, mystery and drama...

Thank goodness there's also comedy (but rather dark ones, some deadpan) in the film... Otherwise, ur heart would have stopped by mid-show.

The humour ingredient are so crucial, that one will not fail to be entertained by the dialogue which, on their own, are results of a realistically portrayed in-depth research into the world of doctors and nurses in their gleaming white coats and under the cover of the highest medical technology.

"Bloody Danes!!!" -Helmer on the rooftop

Besides, it's surrealistic plot and disturbing elements nv fail to surprise... Wait till the end of the film, that has got to be one of the greatest lump of cancerous scare...

A good film to watch, but gotta reduce those camera shakes... I've got a terrible headache just 1 hour into the film... >.< Oh well...

The Shining
3 cheers and 3 cheers and 3 cheers for Stanley Kubrick!!!

Good adaptation and a well chosen cast... Mix them up with a breathtaking suspenseful storyline carefully executed with professional camera handling, you get a bowl full of movie credits to go with a great film.

The Shining is one horrifying experience... in a good way.
Yup... Jack Nicholson is murderous in his portrayal of 'Jack Torrence'("Heeeree's JohNny!!!"), an EX-sch. teacher who's been reduced to parking cars and working at the petrol kiosk. That is before he managed to get a job as the caretaker for The Overlook Hotel when they close the place up for the winter.

We, the audience sit helpless and fearful as we witness the downward spiraling of Jack's mental state. The months passed into weeks and weeks into days... before finally, every hour passes with a twitch in Jack's dangerous mind...

What happens then to his poor, frail looking wife (Shelley Duvall) who's just about as terrified of everything as Jack is spiteful? Or his young son (Danny Loyld) who seems to be constantly talking to his 'imaginery fren' Tony, who show him things? What are those strange apparations that's constantly making an appearence in and about the expensive looking hotel?

A secret too dark to be concealed finally made a claim on its victim... find out who it is and try... if you can, to come of the movie, unchanged...
